General Transportation Policy

SpiritLife staff determines if and when transportation is provided. Transportation may be unavailable on short notice due to vehicle shortages, mechanical issues, driver availability, or staffing limitations. We aim to facilitate transportation into treatment and to assist with discharge transportation following successful completion. The decision to provide transportation rests with the Admission’s Supervisor, as transportation availability may be affected by vehicle or driver shortages.

Medical Appointments

For long-term clients, SpiritLife will work to provide transportation for necessary appointments. Short-term clients will be individually assessed based on clinical or medical necessity, and appointments should be scheduled when drivers are available.

Leaving Against Facility Advice (AFA) or Against Medical Advice (AMA)

Clients choosing to leave AFA or AMA are responsible for their own transportation. In cases where a client is unable to find a ride, SpiritLife may provide transportation based on individual or emergent circumstances.

Poor Weather Conditions

Transportation may be canceled due to hazardous weather, including severe storms, significant snow, ice, or flooding. We will make every effort to reschedule trips as conditions improve.

Emergencies

In cases of medical emergencies, SpiritLife will arrange for transport by ambulance or other emergency services as needed.

Seat Belt Use

All clients are required to wear seat belts during transport. Failure to comply may result in the cancellation of transportation due to safety concerns.

Driver and Vehicle Standards

SpiritLife utilizes licensed staff drivers, who generally do not require a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL). When necessary, SpiritLife may use rental, borrowed, staff, or volunteer vehicles to ensure clients’ needs are met.

Drivers can not stop at any point during the transportation route. Please take care of any outstanding situations or concerns prior to the driver’s arrival.
